Yesterday, Diamond Comic Distributors showed that Star Wars #1 had sold out of his million-busting print run. But Marvel released extra copies to Diamond, and retailers were able to order more.
But they are clearly not expected to last long, and Marvel Comics has issued a second printing, with the black background John Cassaday cover above. It will go on sale on the 4th February.
They will be joined in this endeavour by second prints of Image launch titles Bitch Planet #1 and They're Not Like Us #1 for the 11th of February, selling out, with recognisable demand in our weekly Advance Reorder charts, burning through their sizeable overprint.
However, not everyone is going for this option. Last year, Archaia brought back their single-issue format with their series, Hacktivist. Like their hard covers, the Archaia singles caught my attention because of their high production values including card stock covers. Hacktivist had a brisk sell out and garnered a fair amount of praise. The rest of the year saw Archaia put out series like The Last Broadcast, Butterfly and Rocket Salvage along with the Jim Henson-created Storyteller: Witches series.
Featherswas the first Archaia single issue release of 2015 and as I predicted the series caught the imagination of comic readers and sold out in its first week. Feathers is the story of a mysterious boy completely covered in feathers, living in the slums of a great city, and the highborn girl who becomes his first friend. It's created, written, and drawn by Jorge Corona (Goners), who I suspect we'll be seeing quite a bit more of. From what I understand there are currently no plans to go back to press on the comic. The first issue is still selling for a reasonable amount on eBay, but if parent publisher Boom's Over The Garden Wallis any indication that probably won't be the case for very long…
