A Comic Show – Invader Zim, Conman Lando & All New Archie!

Aaron Haaland of A Comic Shop in Orlando, Florida, writes:

Hey Fandom, I'm back with another week's A Comic Show. This is the pre-SDCC glut of goodies. First, my comic shop got shorted two boxes of comics today (we'll get them tomorrow), so there's a few books I don't cover. But damn there are some great issues. Invader Zim #1 by Vasquez doesn't miss a beat. If you liked the show and don't like this comic, it's you that's changed. Archie #1 by Waid and Staples is a modern reimagining of the icon that's hip without pandering. I want to know what the #lipstickincedent is! Waid and J.G. Jones' Strange Fruit #1 is beautiful and ugly at the same time. A powerful work with basically a black "superman" landing in 1927 Mississippi and fighting the Klan (and it has the best use of the rebel flag in comics ever). Big heads up on The Walking Dead #144, there's death so avoid spoilers.

Star Wars: Lando #1 is my favorite Marvel Star Wars book yet! Soule and Maleev pull a Better Call Saul with Lando. Secret Wars Civil War shows how easily the classic story could go so wrong. 1872 is like 1602, but you know…in 1872. So, it's the Marvel heroes reimagined in a western expansion timely fashion. Age of Apocalypse's is pitch perfect nostalgia like all the Secret Wars mutant books have been.

I did read an advance copy of Batman #42, and I'm in for a penny, in for twelve thousand pounds! Bat-Truck and more on that guy on the bench from the end of last issue!

Enjoy SDCC, all who're going. I'll be reading the Bleeding Cool headlines this year at home rocking my baby boy.
