On the left, the original cover for American Vampire #8. With an untrustworthy fellow, deep forehead, scars on his face, protruding teeth, combover hairstyle and dressed tin the kind of thing you'd expect a slaveowner to wear. With a bloodstained sheriff badge too? no no, no that won't do.

The replacement cover is much more ambiguous. The shifty lord has transformed into Indiana Jones. A better chin, less facial scarring, a properly closed mouth and human eyes. If he also has combover hair, it's well hidden under that hat.

But still that stained badge…
