America's Got Powers – The New Bryan Hitch And Jonathan Ross Comic For 2012

Jonathan Ross has tweeted

"Morning! New year and a new beginning! Am beyond excited to announce that Bryan Hitch and I are publishing new comic with Image this spring…America's Got Powers" Full on superhero angst and action as Americas most gifted superpowered teen wannabes slug it out on tv for a place in the worlds only official super- team"

Bryan Hitch has followed with

"A new year, a new horizon. Very proud to announce an amazing new comic in partnership with broadcast legend Jonathan Ross @wossy in spring!… AMERICA'S GOT POWERS by me and the brilliant @Wossy is coming from image this spring. The full story and first art on CBR tomorrow."

This happened about an hour after I asked the pair about the following piece I was planning to run later today… I guess I can run it now though.

Bryan Hitch's new Twitter ID is the image below. It is called AGPstar. That AGP stands for America's Got Powers, and it's Bryan Hitch's new comic book he's creating with Jonathan Ross for Image Comics. The logo is designed by Neil Edwards.

America's Got Powers – The New Bryan Hitch And Jonathan Ross Comic For 2012Bryan Hitch recently announced that he was leaving Marvel as an exclusive artist after ten years with the company, and has been counting down on Twitter to January 3rd.

The comic tells the story of Tommy, a San Franciscan teenager who works selling merchandise at the stadium that hosts America's Got Powers, a TV reality show that recruits new members for America's number one superhero team.

Tommy was one of the many San Franciscan children born at the same time eighteen years ago, all with super powers – all that is, except for Tommy. Who now finds himself working, watching all his peers in action.

But somehow, this season, he finds himself finds himself successfully entering the show – powerless.

Basically it's The Midwich Cuckoos Meets America's Got Talent. Possibly with a bit of Planetary.

I don't know about you, but it sounds a bloody good idea for a superhero comic book. Jonathan Ross has proved himself with his work with Tommy Lee Edwards on Turf, with a bunch of comics lined up with Tommy and his BVLD studio members, and now a book with one of the true A-Listers of modern comics, Bryan Hitch. Can the movie deal be far behind?

The series appears to have been set up for trademark and media exploitation by Harris Miller III, and a comic book trademark was applied for back in June, though only published "for opposition" in mid-December.

Look for more details and artwork at Comic Book Resources, tomorrow. America's Got Powers is currently scheduled for the second quarter of 2012, with Jonathan Ross' and Tommy Lee Edwards The Golden Age coming in June.
