Colin Farrell In Talks To Play Lancelot In Revived Warner Bros King Arthur Film
We just can't seem to get enough of King Arthur and his big round table. It's been eight years since Antoine Fuqua's "historically accurate" adaptation of the legends, in which Arthur was a Roman solder instead of a king, and someone in marketing was dissatisfied with Keira Knightley's cup size. Since then we've already had two TV series based on the stories: Shine TV's Merlin, which will air its fifth season later this year, and Starz' short-lived Camelot.
Warner Bros' light-hearted modern-day interpretation Arthur and Lancelot started treading water in January, but director David Dobkin seems determined to see the project come to light. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Colin Farrell (who has been in a lot of people's good books ever since In Bruges) is in talks to play the Lancelot role.
If Warner Bros clinch the deal, Farrell may well prove to be the star power required to bring the film's development back to life. Previous casting choices were Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones) and Joel Kinnaman (whom I recently saw in a glorious fist-fight with Ryan Reynolds in Safe House). If Farrell is cast then presumably Kinnaman will be dropped from the cast completely, though it's unknown whether Harington is still involved.
This is all well and good but what I really want instead is an adaptation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, with the Green Knight played by Brian Blessed. Is that so much to ask?
