Djimon Hounsou And Orlando Bloom Are Heading To South Africa This Summer To Film Zulu
Six years ago I saw Blood Diamond in the tiny cinema where I was working as an usher (mainly for the comped tickets), and since then South Africa has become something of a popular destination for filmmakers. Daniel Espinosa's Safe House was released two weeks ago and has already grossed over $100 million in the box office, while Clint Eastwood's Invictus secured Oscar nominations for both Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon.
Now Blood Diamond's Djimon Hounsou has signed on for Zulu, another film set in South Africa which is scheduled to start filming this summer. Screen Daily reports that he will be joined by Orlando Bloom in the film, which is being helmed by French screenwriter and director Jérôme Salle.
In case you're wondering, Zulu will not be a remake of the 1964 Michael Caine movie. Instead, it will be based on a crime novel by Caryl Ferey. Hounsou and Bloom will play two police officers who are tasked with finding the murderer of a successful rugby player's daughter, and who soon discover that her death is linked to the fallout of the apartheid regime. The screenplay was co-written by Salle and another French screenwriter, Julien Rappeneau.
