Gilles Ciment Steps Down As Director Of Angoulême

cibdi-gilles-ciment-sur-le-depart_423415_536x357pGilles Ciment has resigned as the director of Angoulême, the world's biggest and most prestigious comicbook convention.

Taking the position in 2007, his decision to leave now has been linked to issues between the festival and the town from which it gets its name, with Actualitte reporting a source telling them,

There were difficulties in setting up meetings between the public institution and the private company that is responsible for the organization of the Festival.

There have also been repeated reported ructions between the director and the rest of the festival organisers.

However, the appointment of a new more friction-free President may not be what the Festival needs. Much has been made of Ciment's ability to get the show more prominence and funding, directly from fighting elected officials.

Recruitment for his replacement is expected to begin in around two weeks time.
