Josh Boone The Newest Director Linked To The Stand Adaptation
Whoa. From David Yates, Ben Affleck and Scott Cooper to…. Josh Boone? This is an unexpected choice, but The Wrap are reporting that the little known Fault in Our Stars director is in early talks with Warner Bros about taking over helming duties on their long-gestating adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand after Cooper dropped out late last year.
The answer about the film's rating and number of installments has also been answered. Boone will write and direct the adaptation as one single R-rated picture.
Boone is quite a departure from the earlier Paul Greengrass rumors. But it would be quite a get for the young rising director, not only in terms of it being a high profile project, but because he has been a lifelong, die-hard fan of King, with his own youthful fandom of the author even a major semi-autobiographical arc of his first film, the little-seen Stuck in Love.
King is well aware that Boone is a fan, and has already made a cameo appearance as himself in Stuck in Love and given the writer/director the rights to adapt Lisey's Story for the screen. But is that enough for him to take on The Stand? Full disclosure, I didn't really care for Stuck in Love, but well, at the very least the material would be in the hands of a bona fide superfan.
