MCM London Expo Blasts Publicity Back At Kapow Comic Con
When Mark Millar announced Kapow as the first big British comic con in London since the UKCACs, people at the MCM Expo were understandable a bit narked. Millar initially dismissed their show as being "anime" rather than comics – although ignoring the fact he'd been promoting Kapow with expected film content.
Well, MCM are fighting back in the publicity war. In a release "celebrating ten years as London's Comic Con" it used hot phrases such as "the biggest entertainment event in the UK, showcasing the best in comics, movies, video games, cosplay and anime" as well as reminding people that the show "attracted over 100,000 visitors, as well as playing host to the prestigious Eagle Comic Awards and Euro Cosplay Championships." It's worth noting that the Business Design Centre where Kapow is taking place can fit from 5000 people alone to 3000, if you include space for stalls, booths, tables and the like.
And while Mark Millar is teasing the film content announcements, with guesses including previews of Thor, Alien Paradise and Captain America, MCM are giving away tickets to the premiere of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's Paul. With the intimation that maybe, just maybe, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost will be at their show. Without, you know, actually saying that they will be.
And while Mark Millar promotes Kapow as a British equivalent to the San Diego Comic Con… well so does the MCM London Expo, calling to "Britain's answer to the San Diego Comic Con" and it states "the London MCM Expo's Comic Village alone takes up over 2,000 Sqm, hosting talent from Marvel, DC, Avatar, Image and IDW." Coincidentally the Mezzanine in the Business Design Centre, where KaPow is taking place, is 2000 Sqm.
