NYCC '15: We've All Just Seen Next Week's Episode Of Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (SPOILERS)
"I'm not afraid of them."
"Yeah but they're afraid of you. That's just what makes them dangerous."
One of many belter lines from next week's Marvel's Agents Of SHIELD, as seen tonight at New York Comic Con, with Jeph Loeb, Clark Gregg and the audience in Room D1, as we were treated to next week's episode. And the Inhuman hunt is still on, getting worse, as Daisy/Skye says "The terrigen's spreading. So's the paranoia…"
This was, by far, the most violent episode of the show so far. As well as the usual martial arts, super powers and shoving matches, the episode totally went Fight Club as Hunter had to undergo a very bloody trial of fist fighting to get to meet the, well, end of level boss, in his continuing hunt for Ward.
But for such clear trauma on the screen we were softened up by some British pub banter, with subtitles for those who couldn't understand what they were hearing. Though it didn't make much difference as the actual words weren't translated.
It did however give Agent May a chance to rock a brand new look, with Blondie shirt, black leather separate sleeve, kick ass boots and being forced to dull down the attitude. For a little anyway… and she still gets to beat a lot of people up which is always a favourite.
This is an episode about three betrayals and a commitment. We have Lincoln on the run, forcing first his AA sponsor, then forcing Phil Coulson to make a very hard choice. We have the lines of friendship in British Fight Club ripped asunder. But in Fitz and Simmons, we have the opposite, trying to build back what once was, after being the subject of terrible trauma from both sides. And a very extended restaurant reservation.
And there is a kiss. Not between Coulson and Ms Price though, he only has eyes for her vintage car. "Eyes – up here". That's the fanfic relationship that this audience seemed most willing to.
Damn that was a fun episode. Enhanced no doubt by watching it with thousands of fellow fans. I look forward to watching it again next week…
