Space…. The Cuddly Frontier. A Degree In Molecular Biology Well Spent.

My name is Andres Salazar. I'm a storyteller. I've been focusing most of my efforts in stories for adults, but any good writer needs to expand his audience and now I'm delving into the All-Ages world with SpaceBear.

I had three goals with SpaceBear: 1. Tell a fun story for the "geek" parent. 2. Make it Educational 3. Story develops with the child.

SpaceBear is that fun sci-fi adventure story that you would expect from the 1960s, Forbidden Planet, Flash Gordon that kind of stuff. Having my geek-membership card at the ready, I wanted something fun and geeky for parents since I don't see too much of that.

I have a degree in molecular biology and I also had the goal to make it educational. So I include facts and learning moments so that the child can also learn cool sci-fi concepts but also real history, astronomy and science.

The book is aimed at children 3-6 and that is a wide gap of development so to overcome this, I designed the book to be read a number of ways. It can be read as a straight bedtime story, or for older children, there are additional puzzles and dialog that will spark creativity and understanding. The book can be read many ways and hopefully enjoyed many times over.

Every page of SpaceBear is painted in watercolors. It's something I've wanted to do since the beginning. I wanted that old-timey feel stay away from photoshop. It is a 9×9 hardcover and I'm very happy with the results.

SpaceBear is just the beginning. If successful this will be book one of a series of Bears, I won't share yet who the other bears are, but I am very excited about some of the additional stories that I hope to tell soon in the Bear-verse.

I'm doing something special for all the Bleeding Cool backers. If we get another $1,000 in the Kickstarter this weekend, I will put all the Bleeding Cool backers on the "Uber-backer" list which they all will get a SpaceBear coloring book!
