The Damocles Batarang Of Batman #0

Batman #0 is out today, and much will be made of the use of the Bat Signal in the story, and the early appearances of all three Robins.

But I wanted to highlight one very specific storytelling device that Snyder and Capullo use in the main story that works really, really well.

Commissioner Gordon confronting Bruce Wayne on the roof of his new apartment near Crime Alley, right in the middle of the Batarang test. Talking about rumours of a new vigilante. With a four minute clock on the weapon returning to its owner.

Gordon taking the moment to say a lot, tumbling out, but taking his time. Time that Wayne doesn't have. And a literal clock counting down till all of Wayne's lies and Gordon's suspicions are revealed.

It's a sweet device. Especially the way Capullo draws the Batarang between the gutters, yet hanging over the whole rooftop talk.
