The Woman Who Turns San Diego Comic-Con Bags Into Real-Life Bags – Supergirl, Lucifer, Flash, Arrow, The Lot!

Pam Noles is a mainstay volunteer at San Diego Comic-Con, working in guest relations and keeping Hall H running smoothly. Fiercely efficient, but gloriously helpful, at Bleeding Cool, we think she's fantastic.

But she also has a mean Etsy store, where she takes San Diego Comic-Con bags and turns them into, well, proper bags. She writes,

I love the giant geeky bags from conventions, but once you're home, you only need so many laundry bags, you know? Over the years I've invented and road-tested several different approaches to turning the raw material into something fun yet useful for daily life. But none of my designs quite worked. I was starting to get on my own nerves.

Two years ago, while working on a quilted purse, I was watching a movie set in the Reconstruction-era and it hit me – carpet bags! The shape is simple, the side pleating gives the interior a bit of extra room, and going with a trapezoid allows maximum capture of the images.

So here we are. This is my modern take on the 19th-century carpet bag, with a geek twist. I hope you like them as much as I enjoy making them!

From first cut to final backstitch, each bag takes nine hours to create. Each is reinforced with lightweight canvas or denim, along with heavyweight non-fusible interfacing, making them very sturdy.
