'Fire Pro Wrestling' Is Returning In 2017

Fantasy booking. If there's anything that will stir up the Internet Wrestling Community, fantasy booking is a no-brainer. Would you pay to see CM Punk vs. Hulk Hogan? What kind of match would these two people have? Who do you see coming out on top? These are questions we'll never get answered in real life, but CAW makers have been playing out these scenarios since WWF Wrestlemania 2000 hit the N64. But most of the WWF/E games have limitations, and it doesn't matter how well you get their hair and makeup, you'll never truly know if The Fabulous Freebirds and Demolition could win against The New Day. Except… in Fire Pro Wrestling.

The game that launched a thousand arguments is returning in 2017, this time with game designer Goichi Suda (Suda51) at the helm. Suda helped direct and formulate the stories behind the series for several years, starting with Super Fire Pro Wrestling 3 Final Bout in 1993. If you're unfamiliar with the series, it's essentially 32-bit wrestling with every major name you've ever known (and for some, never known) on one complete roster. So if you want to see what Kenny Omega vs. John Cena would look like today, it's possible to pull it off in a SNES kind of way. The game has a huge cult following in Japan and American audiences wised up to it when versions of FPWZ made their way to the states in the early '00s. There have been other versions for other systems, but the classic old-school look is what most fans crave.

Now the game is returning with Suda51 at the helm, working on a game that helped him get his start in the industry. Considering the list of talent across WWE, NJPW, TNA, PWG, ROH and the indies, as well as all the retired legends that could be added in their prime, it makes for one hell of an interesting game. The game will be available for Early Access in the second quarter of 2017, with a PS4 release shortly after.
