Zynga Confirms Acquisition Of Mobile Game Developer StarLark
Zynga has announced this morning that they have officially confirmed their acquisition of mobile game developer StarLark. If you're unfamiliar with StarLark, they are the company behind what is basically the second-largest mobile golf game in the world, Golf Rival, so that is now a part of their library of mobile titles moving forward. The acquisition was revealed to be a total purchase price of $525 million in cash and stock, so the previous owners have got to be very happy with that deal.
The big piece of the puzzle of this one is that it helps expand Zynga's international presence as they now have a new China-based studio, which comes with built-in access to the region's pool of talent. According to the release, StarLark will continue to be led by the company's founder and General Manager, Henry You, and its current management team, so no giant shakeup or change or leadership, just a change of ownership. You can read a couple of quotes below about the deal from this morning's announcement as we wait to see what the next game will be from the studio.
"We could not be more pleased to welcome StarLark's extraordinarily accomplished team to Zynga," said Frank Gibeau, Chief Executive Officer of Zynga. "StarLark and Zynga share a common vision – to bring people together through games. With Golf Rival, we are expanding Zynga's portfolio with a new hit franchise and are establishing a developer presence in China, a country with unparalleled technical and creative talent. As a combined team, we are well positioned to grow faster together."
"StarLark shares a common passion with Zynga for uniting mobile gamers from anywhere in the world. By partnering with Zynga, we will have access to the company's extensive global resources and expertise, while continuing to develop new and exciting content for players," said Henry You, StarLark Founder and General Manager. "We are thrilled to embark on the next chapter of our journey with Zynga, a global leader in mobile gaming."
