It was a big win tonight for FX Networks' Welcome to Wrexham, picking up the Emmy Award for Outstanding Unstructured Reality Series. So you can only imagine that Wrexham team owners Rob McElhenney (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) would be excited to have an Emmy to add to their football club-owning experience – and that they would have something to say about it. Well, you don't have to imagine because we have the acceptance video from the duo that was posted earlier this evening. Well, it's kinda' from the duo. McElhenney kicks things off with his excitement over finally winning an Emmy (after being screwed over for 16 seasons of "Always Sunny"), but before he can get to the personal stuff – he gets interrupted by Deadpool. Apparently, "Mr. Lively" (Reynolds' wife is Blake Lively) decided to let Deadpool do the talking. We don't want to spoil what happens next – but Deadpool relaying "Mr. Lively's" promise to not "fuck up my next movie" got a good laugh out of us.
Here's a look at McElhenney and the "Merc with a Mouth" accepting the Emmy Award via video message that went live during the second night of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards:
Now, here's a look back at the second season trailer & official overview for the second season of FX's Welcome to Wrexham:
Rob McElhenney (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) navigate running the 3rd oldest professional football club in the world. Welcome to Wrexham is a docuseries tracking the dreams and worries of Wrexham, a working-class town in North Wales, UK, as two Hollywood stars guide the future of the town's historic football club.
In 2020, Rob and Ryan teamed up to purchase the 5th tier Red Dragons in the hopes of turning the club into an underdog story the whole world could root for. The world took notice and change is afoot. After a painful elimination in the playoffs, season two continues to track the club as they fight for promotion out of the National League and return to the English Football League. Dedicated staff and supporters hold on to the dream of returning the team and town to glory while bracing for the new-found challenges that fame has brought to their small community.
From Hollywood to Wales, from the pitch to the locker room, the front office to the pub, Welcome to Wrexham follows Rob and Ryan's stewardship and the inextricably connected fates of a team and a town in the midst of history in the making.
Produced by Boardwalk Pictures, FX's Welcome to Wrexham is executive produced by McElhenney, Reynolds, Josh Drisko, Bryan Rowland, Jeff Luini, Nick Frenkel, George Dewey, and Boardwalk Pictures' Andrew Fried, Alan Bloom, Dane Lillegard, Sarina Roma, and Jordan Wynn.\
