James Gunn Talks Letting The Russos Direct The Guardians

It can be weird for creatives to see other people working with their characters. While James Gunn is by no means the creator of the Guardians of the Galaxy he was the one who brought these characters to life on the big screen. Thus far he's been only one to direct these characters until Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 came along. During an interview with IGN Gunn was asked if he's seen the Infinity War footage and how felt that someone else was directing his "babies".

Of course I've seen it and, listen, I've been dealing with the Russo's for awhile and everybody for awhile. How the Guardians are implemented into Infinity Wars, how they are supporting characters in the two Avengers movies, and how that's going to work out. So I've been been, I've taken very good care of them and they've been taking good care of me so I feel really, really excited about it.

It sounds like Gunn isn't being hyper protective of the Guardians when it comes to sharing them with other people in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It also sounds like there was communication between himself and the Infinity War team so everything went smoothly. If the Guardians were completely different people during Infinity War it would kind of negate crossing them over.

That opening scene, with the Guardians finding Thor in space, felt spot on character wise for everyone. I think the Guardians are in good hands.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released digitally in HD, 4K Ultra HD, and Disney Movies Anywhere on August 8th and physically on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD August 22nd.
