James McAvoy Does Not Like Shaving His Head For X-Men Films

Sometimes actors have to change themselves to fit into the role they have decided to take on. Sometimes that means gaining or losing weight, working out significantly more, or changing your hair in significant ways. In the case of playing Professor X in the X-Men movies, it means shaving your head — and that's something James McAvoy is not exactly fond of. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, McAvoy talks about disliking the bald look:

James McAvoy Does Not Like Shaving His Head For X-Men Films

"I used to like the fact that it afforded me a certain amount of anonymity but it no longer does that. Since I did two movies that everybody saw where I had a bald head, now it's like a f—ing beacon. But what do I like about it? Not a lot at the moment. I like when it's been about five or seven days going in, then it's cool but when it's properly skinhead I look a bit weird. I do like the fact that I don't have to do anything in the morning."

There is a plus to not having to do your hair in the morning, but the bald head is quite distinctive — and if McAvoy is someone who likes a bit of time to himself, then it's not surprising he wouldn't be too fond of it. We don't know how big of a role McAvoy will play in the X-Men universe after Dark Phoenix, so you never know — this could be the last time he has to shave his head for this particular role.

Summary: Jean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn it into a Dark Phoenix. Now the X-Men will have to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix, directed by Simon Kindberg, stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Sophie Turner, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult. It will be released on November 2nd, 2018.
