Awkwafina also has a semi-autobiographical television series in the works at Comedy Central currently, and is appearing in two films which premiere at Sundance Film Festival next month.

Back in August of 2018, Kasdan told /Film that the hope is to keep a level on continuity going, continuing with Jumanji 3:

"Our hope is to keep a long continuity through the whole thing, even though the story that we're telling in the second movie, the movie that we're working on right now is much more connected to the first movie that I made a year ago than it is to the original. We love the idea of keeping all of this together and connected in some way or another."

The film still has a projected release date of December 13th 2019, which would put it in the path of Disney's Star Wars: Episode IX.
