Junkie XL Responds To Being Replaced By Danny Elfman On 'Justice League'
When I reported that Junkie XL had left Justice League and been replaced with Danny Elfman all of the press releases made it sound like it wasn't a big deal. Perhaps even a mutual thing that where Antonius Holkenborg, aka Junkie XL, had to move onto other projects and the reshoots were slowing him down.
That does not appear to be the case. Holkenborg took to twitter today to tell us exactly how he feels about being replaced this late in the game.
As my mentor Hans Zimmer told me: you haven't made it in Hollywood as a composer until you get replaced on a project. So I guess I finally graduated this week. It pains me to leave the project, but a big thanks to Zack for asking me to be part of his vision, and I wish Danny, Joss, and Warner Bros. all the best with Justice League.
Well all right then. The earlier articles speculated that Elfman was being brought on to perhaps add some music that was already created but now it sounds like he'll be composing an entirely new original soundtrack. As Holkenborg says this is a thing that happens but it appears to be a first for him so he's understandably a little sour on it. This movie has been shooting since April and Holkenborg has been part of the team since the original Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The guitar riff that plays during Wonder Woman's scenes in that movie and in her solo movie were composed by Holkenborg with the help of Hans Zimmer. To get kicked off less than six months before release is kind of a low blow.
Elfman is a talented composer though and he's going to bring something special to the soundtrack. It's just a shame that it's coming at the cost of someone who was likely very invested in the project.
Summary: Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy.
Justice League will be directed by Zack Snyder and stars Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Ray Fisher. and Henry Cavill. It will be released on November 17, 2017.
