Kevin Feige is Developing a "Star Wars" Movie for Lucasfilm
No matter how you might personally feel about the Marvel Cinematic Universe there is no denying that the franchise, as a whole, has been a massive success. There are a lot of reasons why Marvel Studios has done so well but a lot of it comes down to having Kevin Feige gently guiding the franchise. Feige is not arguably one of the most powerful producers working today and while the impact he has had on superhero movies is far reaching it appears he's crossing over into another franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter Feige has been brought on by Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy to develop a new Star Wars movie.
"We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox. With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together," said Walt Disney Studios co-chairman and chief creative officer Alan Horn.
Feige's love for Marvel Comics is likely one of the reasons the movies have worked so well and he has always expressed a lot of love for Star Wars as well. However, this development is interesting since Feige's workload was cited as one of the reasons for the Marvel-Sony partnership falling apart. Whether or not these two things are related in any way is still unknown but it'll be interesting to see what Feige adds to an already established franchise.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, directed by J.J. Abrams, stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, Keri Russell, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams.
It will be flying into theaters on December 20th, 2019.
