Major Infinity War Casting Clue: That Time Peter Dinklage Cosplayed Marvel's Eternity On Saturday Night Live
Begin transmission. That's one small step for man, one giant leap for… MY PANTS!
With the news last night that Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage is in talks to join the cast of Avengers: Infinity War, fans have been wondering which character Dinklage will bring his star power and prestige to. Falling into the same trap that often leads fanboys to only be able to imagine already-bald actors to play roles like Lex Luthor, many including Bleeding Cool's own Dan Wickline have suggested that Dinklage could play Pip the Troll, due to his stature. Another name we've seen floated on Twitter is Adam Warlock. Both characters seem likely for Infinity War, given its plot and the cosmic source material it will draw from.
But Peter Dinklage has already given a clue as to what character he might play, when he hosted Saturday Night Live back in 2016. During the show, Dinklage starred in a sketch where he was wearing half the costume of Marvel cosmic character Eternity, one of the most powerful characters in the comic book universe. Could this have been a major clue as to what Dinklage's future role in the films would be?
In the comics, Eternity is the brother of Infinity, and along with Death and Oblivion, helps maintain the balance of the entire universe. It's an important enough role for a high profile actor like Dinklage, and Eternity did play a role in The Infinity Gauntlet, a classic super-mega-crossover event that Avengers: Infinity War is likely to draw heavily from.
Was Dinklage's "Space Pants" sketch designed to catch the attention of Marvel's casting director, in the same way that actors dress up like superhero characters on social media in hopes of getting cast in a superhero movie? Does this indicate that not only will Dinklage play Eternity in Avengers: Infinity War and its unnamed sequel, which will film back-to-back, but also that the character will be drastically reinvented as a New Wave singer? Will Gwen Stefani play Infinity? Is all of this just one giant coincidence? Is there any such thing as a coincidence?
Who can say whether any of these questions will be answered by watching the following video?
