Uma Thurman is officially stepping back into action with Prime Video's Pretty Lethal, a flashy genre blend that turns ballet training into survival tactics, and it also puts her on the villain side of the equation. Conceptually, the film follows a troubled troupe of dancers on the way to a prestigious competition when their bus breaks down in a remote area. With nowhere else to go, they take shelter at an unsettling roadside inn, only to realize the night is going to be about getting out alive. Thurman recently explained what drew her to the project in the first place, saying it could have gone in a dozen different directions, but the version taking shape felt unusually bold.

Uma Thurman on the Reason She Was Drawn to Her Pretty Lethal Role

She tells Screen Rant, "Looking at the script, this thing could have been anything. This is an incredible mashup of ballet and a battle for survival. And then when I met with Vicky on Zoom, I kind of got an understanding that she was going to break this thing out, and make this like, intense female empowerment, pop art, hyper-violent action, I was like, 'Whoa, this could be something special.' So I really just had to come along with the ride, and knowing the hard work that these young women were putting in, and the determination to do something poignant, and push yourselves to sort of show up for women and girls as power icons. I was like, 'Yeah. I'll go be the bad guy for that one.'"

The film's talented cast definitely reflects that satisfying ensemble-first approach. Pretty Lethal stars Iris Apatow, Lana Condor, Millicent Simmonds, Avantika, and Maddie Ziegler play the ballerinas, with Thurman starring as Devora Kasimer, a reclusive former ballet prodigy who now runs the inn. The film is directed by Vicky Jewson and written by Kate Freund, and it comes from 87North Productions and Gulfstream Pictures, with Amazon MGM Studios distributing.

Release-wise, Pretty Lethal is already pretty close. It recently had its world premiere at SXSW on March 13, 2026, and it officially starts streaming worldwide on Prime Video on March 25, 2026.
