Warner Bros Animation's Justice League Dark Promises Horror Feel At NYCC Panel

Most of you know the story of a child who lost his parents during a criminal act and as a result vowed to fight crime. And after growing to adulthood, garbled in an intimidating costume of grey and blue, he did just that.

And some of you may even know the story of a rough and tumble Brit who has his own dark magic methods for righting wrongs enacted on others. And usually does so with a cigarette dangling from his lips and a less than pressed trenchcoat hanging from his thin frame.

Well, coming in 2017, Warner Bros Animation's DC Universe Original Movie, Justice League Dark will bring these two fine felon-fighting fellows together for the first time in their animated canon of comic book hero action.

Yes, Batman and John Constantine, two rather shaded heroes, born in the pages of DC Comics, will be starring along with a roster of magic-wielding characters from the comic universe catalog, most recently featured in DC Comics' JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK comic book series.

The premise of this new animated feature being that when The Dark Knight comes across a new kind of arcane villain that the primary Justice League is ill equipt to handle, he must assemble a new otherworldly-minded group of anti-heroes to challenge this foe.

The most striking thing about this project is that it's being presented in the 'horror film' mode which should offer some nice contrast to what Gotham's Guardian usually goes up against in his film forays, animated or otherwise.

The film will feature Jason O'Mara, returning to his role as Batman from previous Warner Bros Animation/Batman projects. And O'Mara comes to the role with a great understanding and appreciation for the character he has developed as the animated version of the current comic series model for Batman.

And in the role of John Constantine, Matt Ryan will be returning to the role he introduced to a live-action audience in the regrettably short-lived Constantine television series that ran for one season on NBC last year.

This is a bit of a coup for the fans of this character, and this performer, whose tried and true followers campaigned hard for the extended life of the original Constantine series. The CW Network even brought the character back first, with Ryan again in the role, when he was introduced on Arrow for a single episode guest spot last year.

This dark magic league of spell casters and spiritualist is also to include Zatanna The Magician, Deadman, Jason Blood and The Swamp Thing. And not to go unmentioned, the traditional heroes of the original Justice League roster will be making appearances as well.

The film's producers promise a boatload of high-powered, higher-power, live-action-worthy, animated and strange adventures with a final climactic battle that is not to be missed.
