Warner Bros Optimistically Working On Justice League Sequel, Still Working On The Batman Script
In a quote making the rounds from December's issue of Total Film Magazine, actor J.K. Simmons, who plays Commissioner Gordon in the film, reveals that Warner Bros is operating under the assumption that Justice League will be a success and is already working on a sequel.
Asked about how jacked he's looking by an interview who we assume to be Booker T, Simmons said:
Well, Commissioner Gordon wears a trench coat in every scene, so I don't know that the 'pumped up' part is going to be all that evident, especially when you're standing next to Batman! But this is the first Justice League movie – we hope – of a few. They're working on scripts for The Batman and for the next Justice League movie. It introduces my incarnation of Commissioner Gordon. I don't have a lot to do. I feel like I just dipped my toe in the water of who Commissioner Gordon will be.
Simmons' comments are interesting for two reasons. First, that he mentions that a Justice League 2 script is already in the works. But also interesting is the fact that Warner Bros is still trying to figure out the script for The Batman.
Originally planned as a movie to be written by, directed by, and starring Ben Affleck, Affleck has been slowly inching backwards toward the door to escape his role in the DC Cinematic Universe. First, Affleck revealed he would not direct the film. Then, it was revealed that his script was being rewritten. The only remaining question is whether he will actually star in it, or exit before both The Batman and Justice League 2 start filming.
Warner Bros may be working on the scripts for Justice League 2 and The Batman, but if they don't lock down the slippery Batfleck, Commissioner Gordon may find himself waiting for a Batman that never shows up the next time he turns on the Bat Signal.
