Will Natalya Diminish Naomi's Glow?
The Smackdown Women's Championship went on the line at Summer Slam, one of WWE's biggest pay-per-view events. Natalya and Naomi have been antagonizing each other for some time on Smackdown, so it was time for them to hash things out.
The women brought in their A-Game from the start. The two are evenly matched. Natalya quickly took the upper hand, throwing Naomi into the turnbuckle and then out the ring. She tried to pin Naomi down, but only got a two count. Natalya attempted to pin Naomi down a number of times, but Naomi wasn't having it. Naomi came back with a string of kicks, but Natalya was quickly showing her dominance. Naomi again came back, and evened out the playing field. This match was not easy for either contender.
After the two went back and forth in failed submissions, Natalya got Naomi in a sharpshooter, but Naomi cleverly got out of it by doing a flip, driving Natalya into the buckles. Natalya came back with one more sharp shooter, thus winning the title. Another Hart has won another title.
Naomi survived the first Sharpshooter and attempted a split-legged moonsault. Unfortunately for the champion, landing stomach-first across the knees of her challenger gave Natalya the opening to once again cinch in the excruciating Sharpshooter in the center of the ring, leaving Naomi with no choice but to submit.
Natalya rubbed her victory in the former champion's face, kissing the SmackDown Women's Championship and holding it high above her head for the sold-out Barclays Center crowd to see. However, Natalya's time to celebrate won't last long. Not only will she have to contend with Naomi, but also Carmella, who still holds the Money in the Bank contract and can challenge for the title at any time. Natalya's win saw the start of her first title reign in six years, but with a stacked Women's division on SmackDown LIVE, will The Queen of Harts' rule be a long one?
