Avatar: The Last Airbender Character Posters; Showrunner Talks Changes

Avatar: The Last Airbender released posters for Gordon Cormier's Aang, Kiawentiio's Katara, Ian Ousley's Sokka, and Dallas Liu's Zuko.

With only a little more than a month to go until Netflix and showrunner Albert Kim's (Sleepy Hollow, Nikita) take on Avatar: The Last Airbender hits our screens, we have two big updates to pass along. On the key art poster front, we've got a look at Gordon Cormier's Aang, Kiawentiio's Katara, Ian Ousley's Sokka, and Dallas Liu's Zuko to pass along. But first, a quick heads-up from Kim via SFX Magazine about a key moment from the original series that was never shown but will get some screen time in the live-action series. "The original series never shows the Fire Nation attacking the Southern Air Temple, and that's something we do see in our version," Kim shared. Another key change is that the Netflix series will be a serialized drama right out of the gate – as opposed to the animated series, whose first season was built around standalone episodes. "We all knew that there were things we wanted to change, but not just for the sake of change," Kim adds. "There had to be a reason for the change." Now, here's a look at those character key art posters we promised:

And here's a look back at the teaser & official series overview for Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series that was released last summer, with the series set to hit screens on February 22, 2024:

Water. Earth. Fire. Air. The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the firebenders towards conquering the world. With the current incarnation of the Avatar yet to emerge, the world has lost hope.

But like a light in the darkness, hope springs forth when Aang (Gordon Cormier), a young Air Nomad — and the last of his kind — reawakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar. Alongside his newfound friends Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Katara (Kiawentiio), siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim). But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko (Dallas James Liu) determined to capture them, it won't be an easy task. They'll need the help of the many allies and colorful characters they meet along the way.
