"Homecoming" Season 2 Adds Joan Cusack, Mary Holland in Recurring Roles
Joan Cusack (Grosse Pointe Blank) and Mary Holland (Veep) are set to join singer, songwriter, and actress Janelle Monáe (Harriet, Hidden Figures) in recurring roles for the second season of Amazon Prime Video's psychological thriller Homecoming. Kyle Patrick Alvarez (13 Reasons Why, The Stanford Prison Experiment) is set to direct and executive produce, with Stephan James' Walter Cruz and Hong Chau's Audrey Temple set to return. Bobby Cannavale and Shea Whigham are also rumored to making returns.
Cusack's Francine Bunda is described as an Army officer with an unconventional approach to the job. Holland's Wendy is an ambitious executive in Geist Group's R&D department.
Created by Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg, the second season finds Alvarez taking the "director's baton" from Sam Esmail (Mr. Robot) and Monáe replacing first season star Julia Roberts – who is not returning but is remaining as an executive producer on the Amazon Studios/UCP co-production. Fans of the popular Gimlet Media podcast will find the series moving beyond the soure material, including the introduction of new characters.
Homecoming's first season focused on Heidi Bergman (Roberts), a caseworker at the Homecoming Transitional Support Center, a Geist Group facility helping soldiers transition back to civilian life. Walter Cruz (James) is one of these soldiers, eager to begin the next phase of his life. Overseeing Heidi and the facility is Colin Belfast (Cannavale), an ambitious company man whose manic demands point to questionable motives.
Four years later, Heidi has started a new life when a Department of Defense auditor (Whigham) comes to her with questions about why she left the Homecoming facility. Heidi begins to realize that there's a whole other story behind the story she's been telling herself.
Homecoming is co-produced by Amazon Studios and UCP. Alvarez, Roberts through her production company Red Om Films, Esmail Corp's Sam Esmail, Anonymous Content's Chad Hamilton; Horowitz and Bloomberg; and Chris Giliberti, Alex Blumberg, and Matt Lieber of Gimlet Media all serve as executive producers.
