IATSE, AMPTP Reach Tentative New Area Standards Agreement: Details

AMPTP and IATSE have reached a tentative agreement on a new Area Standards Agreement, with ratification votes on both deals expected in July.


The entertainment industry took another major step forward to having an August with some major labor union deals in place. Last year brought ratified three-year deals between SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) & WGA (Writers Guild of America), and AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers). Earlier this week, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) reached a tentative agreement on a Hollywood Basic Agreement and Videotape Agreement with AMPTP – covering approximately 50,000 members of the mostly L.A.-based 13 West Coast Locals. On Tuesday night, a tentative agreement between IATSE and AMPTP on a new Area Standards Agreement was reached –  comprising 23 Locals across the country (approximately 20,000 members).

Now that the Hollywood Basic Agreement & Videotape Agreement, and Area Standards Agreement are tentatively in place, members will have the opportunity to view a Detailed Summary in the next few days – with a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) set to be released at a later date. Members can also expect local town hall meetings to go over the details of the tentative agreements, with a multi-local webinar set for Sunday, July 14th, at 4 p.m. ET to review the proposed language for the MOA.   • Scale wage rate increases of 7%, 4%, and 3.5% over the three-year term.
  • Additional regional wage adjustments
  • A uniform benefit contribution rate for all jurisdictions with significant increases in both health and retirement, representing as much as a $63 increase per employee per day in some areas.
  • Triple time paid after 15 elapsed hours
  • 33% increase in the Nearby Hire living allowance
  • Comprehensive Artificial Intelligence provisions that defines our covered work and protects against prompts used to displace a covered employee.
  • Juneteenth was added as a holiday,
  • New Media Sideletter moved into the body of the agreement with the elimination of delayed 2nd season rates for all high-budget streaming series.
