New York Jets Lose Quincy Enunwa For The Season Due To Injury

In what sounds like a really strange injury to see happen, New York Jets wide receiver Quincy Enunwa was taking part in 7-on-7 drills and dropped a pass from quarterback Christian Hackenberg on Saturday night. The receiver took another step the fell face first to the turf without being touched. Enunwa stayed on the ground for several minutes while trainers checked him out. He then got to his knees before walking off slowly to the locker room. It's believe that he hit his neck or head when he fell and caused a similar injury to the one that kept him out of sprint workouts.

Now, ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that a source says the Jets plan on putting Enunwa on injured reserve.

If Enunwa is put on I.R., he could return later in the year, but that seems unlikely. Most reports are saying he is done for the year, which leaves the big problem for the Jets. With 80 career catches, he was the most experience receiver on the roster after the team cut Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker in the offseason. Enunwa was expected to be the team's #1 with Marquess Wilson and Robby Anderson behind him, neither of whom have more than 60 career catches.

You'd expect the team to make a trade or sign a free agent, but so far the Jets seem to be in the middle of a fire sale year, having jettisoned a good number of their top players and big contracts. It remains to be seen if the team would be willing to put out money on replacement player or if they'll just stand with what they have and hope Enunwa can come back.
