"Ultraman" Anime Series Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix
Do you ever get that feeling that things are about to change? A lot of really cool animated projects are being developed for streaming services, which is a change I can get behind. Ultraman, the latest iteration of a venerable classic of Japanese science fiction story telling, has been renewed for a second season by Netflix.
The first season was plenty exciting, with the action focusing on Shinjiro, the son of the original Ultraman, Shin Hayata. Shinjiro finds out that he has inherited his father's powers, and can become Ultraman when needed.
The new Ultraman series utilized some exceptionally cool motion capture technology to realize the awesome battles that Ultraman gets into, and those battles got increasingly bigger, better, and more elaborate as the series progressed.
If I had one complaint about the new Ultraman series, it's that he doesn't grow into his giant form to kick alien monster ass. Sure, he kicks plenty of Space Booty throughout the first season, but Ultraman always plays best big in my head.
Both directors of the new Ultraman series, Kenji Kamiyama and Shinju Aramaki, are set to return for the second season, and they'll be finishing up the first season of the new Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, too. Both series will be utilizing that fantastic motion capture technology to get the action scenes just right.
