Stephen Amell: Arrow Season 5 Could Be Last
Stephen Amell was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly today, and he had some candid words about the perceived problems with Arrow's fourth season.
"I put my heart and soul into every day of work and every episode, but at the same time there is a lull in any relationship where you need to have a 'come to Jesus' moment, so to speak," Amell said. "That happened for me in the latter half of season 4, where I feel like there were just a few things that got lost in the shuffle, so we needed to really refocus in season 5."
As to what he hopes to focus on, Amell had something in mind: "We are a street-level crime fighting show. We're at our best when we're focused on those things." Ultimately, Amell sees the end of the show coming if they are unable to capture what he calls the "magic formula."
"I do really believe that this season is sort of a throw-down-the-gauntlet year for us, where we're either going to do what we do and do it well or it's the last year," he explained. "If we find that magic formula — which is not magic, it's just hard work and playing to your strengths — then the show could go on for a really long time."
Though Arrow isn't performing as well as last season, it still performs well enough to avoid cancellation as one of The CW's highest rated shows, so if the show does end, it would seem to be a creative decision, not a financial one.
Well, at least we'll still have The Flash.
