Black Lightning Season 1: Marvin 'Krondon' Jones III Talks Tobias Whale
In the series premier of Black Lightning, we only got to meet Tobias Whale (Marvin 'Krondon' Jones III) twice. Once when he was feeding a guy to some piranhas and the second when he was having a bit of a motivational conversation with Lala (William Catlett) and a harpoon gun. Whale is an ex-politician turned crime boss and head of the 100 gang, he's also responsible for the death of Jefferson Pierce's (Cress Williams) father and he believes he has already killed Black Lightning… hence him being a bit upset when reports of Black Lightning popping up again in Freeland start flying.
Whale is played by rapper and actor Marvin 'Krondon' Jones III, who had only one other credit to his name, an episode of Harry's Law with Kathy Bates back in 2011. He's also one of three members of the California underground hip hop group Strong Arm Steady. Jones talks about Wale as someone who believes the perception of power is very important to keeping those under you in line. He also believes that Whale will never get past his desire to bring down Black Lightning. Jones professes to being a fan of comic books and comic book universes, but sees what they're building with Black Lightning as being something that everyone can relate to in one way or another.
Black Lightning airs Tuesdays at 9 PM on the CW.
