The Deaths of Extermination #1 – And A Brand New Revamp Of One Character (Spoilers)
Extermination is upon us. The mini-series series by Ed Brisson and Pepe Larraz that will finally deal with the fate of the Original Five, the Cyclops, Beast, Angel, Iceman, Marvel Girl who were brought from the past to the present by the present-day Beast to shame the present-day Cyclops before he died. And then couldn't go back, even though they tried, though now knowing that one day they will have done, because in the past they saw that they had.
Timey-wimey.
We mentioned that one of the X-Men Blue team would meet their end in this issue. And so it came to be. Though it may not be the one you were expecting.
I mean, technically Bloodstorm was already undead. But she was also getting down with Cyclops at the time. But there is an even more significant death coming up from a different time traveller.
The death of Cable. Yes, even though he's just been in a movie and has a new one on the way. But since we are all timey-wimey, there is only one person it can be and who is also happy to throw bodyslide terminology around. And no, not Requiem from Infinity Wars, even though they have a very familiar schtick.
It's Young Cable. NuCable. Lipstick Cable. Whatever the nomenclature will be. Looks like for the young past versions of the O5 to go back to the past, it takes the past of a time traveller from the future, also from the future to come back to the present to take them to the past. And for some reason kill his own future now that it is stuck in the present. Also, he got those scars young.
And you with me on this? If not, distract yourself with Adult Jean Grey's inconsistency. She's not happy in last week's X-Men Gold when Rachel calls her Mom.
Even though Rachel is the parallel dimension first-born of Jean Grey and Scott Summers from the Days Of Future Past storyline. Ans she's still harping on in today's Astonishing X-Men Annual.
But in Extermination #1, with Rachel standing in the same room (and her younger self as well), then she's happy to drop…
Even though Cable was the son of Scott and her clone Madelyne Pryor (and yes, it also got retconned that she and Scott went to the future to raise him, but still, why get so picky with Rachel?)
Anyway, at least her son doesn't look older than her anymore. The Adult Jean Grey that is…
EXTERMINATION #1 (OF 5)
(W) Ed Brisson (A) Pepe Larraz (CA) Mark Brooks
Cyclops. Iceman. Angel. Beast. Marvel Girl. The original team of teen mutants brought together by Professor Charles Xavier many years ago have been shunted through time to find a world they barely recognize but were determined to help. Now, finding themselves targeted for death, the future of mutantkind lies squarely in the hands of its past. Writer Ed Brisson (OLD MAN LOGAN, CABLE) and artist Pepe Larraz (UNCANNY AVENGERS, AVENGERS: NO SURRENDER) answer the biggest question of all: can the fate of the X-Men be changed?
