The Good Place Season 3, Episode 11 'The Book of Dougs': They Made It! Kinda! (SPOILER RECAP)
Welcome back to NBC's not-your-average-sitcom-by-a-longshot hit comedy The Good Place, with the series' midseason return picking up right where the winter finale left us: our four humans and two favorite not-humans are in the Good Place.
That's right, the actual forking Good Place.

The Good Place s03e11 'The Book of Dougs': Michael's resolve is put to the test. Meanwhile, Jason wrestles with his feelings and Chidi surprises Eleanor.
Well…not really. They end up getting sent to the mailroom of the Good Place. Sadly, the "promised land" is still inaccessible to the group, making this a slightly-less-than-terrible hideout.
Chidi (William Jackson Harper) takes Eleanor (Kristen Bell) on a sweet (albeit a little weird) date in which they drink champagne next to the locked door to the Good Place. They then run off to do something spontaneous and very date-like in an upstairs closet.
Tahani (Jameela Jamil) tries to get Jason (Manny Jacinto) and Janet (D'Arcy Carden) to face their feelings for each other after they stumbled upon Janet's feelings and past with Jason whilst in her void. Though the love triangle is still not totally resolved by the end of the episode, Tahani does help Janet realize that feelings are okay–but she does not want this to cause any grief. The scenes wrap up with all of them crying in what turns out to be a really sweet moment.
Meanwhile, Michael (Ted Danson), posing as an accountant, contacts the Good Place's presiding council, who come to the rescue to stop the Bad Place from interfering in the afterlife. Unfortunately, while the council wants to be helpful – in reality, they never get anything done because they're so caught up in red tape, bureaucratic and political niceties, and committees.
They aren't even thinking of thinking about doing anything about this massive urgent problem for another 1500 years!
Dejected, Michael takes matters into his own hands and does some research–coming to a conclusion that is the social equivalent of what Einstein found to be true: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Sometimes good but often bad–which negates all the points a good action might have earned.
Turns out, it is no longer the "intention" that counts in the afterlife's bureaucratic, antiquated points system–so it's up to our heroes to make it right. Taking their leave, Michael sets up a meeting with the Judge and they all head through yet another portal–bidding the "mail place" goodbye.
Will Eleanor and Chidi stay together? Will it matter if the afterlife is forked up for all eternity?
See if we get some answers next week when NBC's The Good Place returns with the season's penultimate episode, 'Chidi Sees the Time-Knife':
