Deals and Delays For DC Comics – Harleen, Joker/Harley: Criminal Sanity and Basketful Of Heads
The third issue of Stjepan Sejic's Harleen for DC's Black Label has been delayed by a week – not because of him, but because sales on the second issue this week were seen as rather strong, and this gives retailers another chance to up their orders on the third and final story. Look to see that pop in next week's Advance Reorders piece. It also coincides with a sale DC is running on back issues and collections of Harley Quinn as a result of added interest.
Joker/Harley: Criminal Sanity #1 came out earlier in the month and comic book retailers have now been told that if their orders for #2 are at 75% or more of their orders for Batman: Last Knight On Earth #1 – which I think might be quite a bit of a stretch – then they will be able to make 50% returns on Joker/Harley: Criminal Sanity #2. Which might encourage retailers not to drop orders for issue 2 as much as they might have usually. But that's still quite a jump looking at sales patterns. Will anyone take this up?
Basketful Of Heads #1 saw its first issue out this week – even though the first issue delivered less than the solicitation. Retailers have now been told that if their orders for #2 are at 75% or more of their orders for Justice League Dark #8 – but of a random choice there – then they will be able to make 50% returns on Basketful Of Heads #2. Which might encourage retailers not to drop orders for issue 2 as much as they might have usually. And this is probably a lot more achievable for retailers than the previous deal.
Another look at how the sausage is made…
