Something Is Killing The Children #1 Gets a Sixth Printing as Every Issue Goes Back to Print
Boom Studios took two weeks off at the end of the year – perhaps to celebrate the success of their creator-owned launches in their self-styled 50K Club and while the big story in the interim is that Donny Cates on A Trading Card sells for $20 on eBay, I'm hearing the publisher has returned with even bigger news.
Expect an announcement that Boom! is kicking off the new year by sending every issue of James Tynion IV and Werther Dell'Edera's Something is Killing The Children, the must-read creator-owned series of 2019 and the buzz book amongst the biggest names in comics, including his former professor Scott Snyder, back to press for new printings – and for them to be once again fully filled with no allocations.
That means we'll be looking at a 6th printing for Something is Killing The Children #1, an issue #2 4th printing and then 2nd printings for issues #3 and #4.
With each issue of the series from #2 onwards selling close to 20,000 – a number that Boom, Dark Horse, IDW, Dynamite or Image Comics would be happy for a launch issue – it looks like readers have chosen to stick with this one for the long haul.
It also means that Something is Killing The Children #1 is closing in on 60,000 units sold, the kind of numbers that explain why the publisher rocketed to the #4 position in November, right behind Image, DC and Marvel. Will they keep that position for December? I mean, probably not, but check back tomorrow…
With a successful 2019 continuing to bear fruit for Boom, it might be advisable for retailers to look carefully at their orders on Si Spurrier & Christian Wildgoose's Alienated #1 which FOCs on January 20th – the company hasn't launched a creator-owned book that hasn't gone back for multiple printings before launch in a year and readers are showing no signs of slowing down.
Here's what the 5th printing of SIKTC looked like…
