Who had this to say…
Strange Adventures #1 by Tom King won the week, with folks no doubt hoping for more of that Mister Miracle magic. Batman #90 followed closely behind, another "hot" issue causing it to sell out before we closed on Wednesday. The rest of the week was a little slower than usual, but nothing too out of the ordinary.

Batman #90 was easily the winner this week. I am completely surprised at it going for double digits online the day it came out. The rest of the comics out this week seemed slower than usual.

Another week dominated by the big two with King of Nowhere stealing the number nine spot this week. Although it's a five way tie for the last five titles so it could technically be placed anywhere from six to ten. Strange Adventures taking number one isn't unexpected though selling about twice as many issues as Batman #90 but what can we expect from the creative team of King, Gerads, and Shaner.

It was a "Strange" week at FFF with Flash taking the top spot in our Top Ten Bestseller list followed close behind by both Strange Academy and Strange Adventures. Flash's anniversary issue is no surprise. It was nice to see it marked down a little to $7.99. I think that may have swayed some folks. I just wish DC was sticking with that price point for all of the other Anniversary issues they've got coming up. Joker and Catwoman at $10 I can understand, but to see Robin and Green Lantern solicited at that price makes it hard to figure out how to order. For the big premiere issues this week, there was a lot of buzz around Strange Adventures. We pushed it pretty hard as we did well with Mister Miracle. Strange Academy was a bit of a surprise. I haven't been this excited for a book from Marvel that doesn't have an X or a Spider in the name. It kind of snuck up on us. I know Marvel has been including a preview in a lot of their books so maybe they actually managed to hype the right thing this time. A team like Skottie Young and Humberto Ramos is also hard to beat. I can see this being a book that sits in our Top Ten for a while to come. On the indie side, Mirka Andolfo's Mercy and W. Maxwell Prince's King of Nowhere also started pretty strong for their debut issues. Both creators have garnered a small following at our store with several members of our staff recommending Unnatural and Ice Cream Man on the regular. I'm personally a big fan of Ice Cream Man, so it's cool to see Prince putting out more great work. Marauders, Buffy and Star Wars are all pretty consistent Top Ten books for us. Savage Avengers as well which I'm still a little surprised at. It actually outsells our Conan subs. Crazy times for comics! Oh, speaking of, Batman! As I've said recently, we actually cut our subs for Batman right after the switch over. We've cut almost every book, so it wasn't personal with the new creative team. James Tynion has done some awesome work and I'm a big Tony Daniel fan. But the numbers just weren't there so we had to trim it a bit. And then the Punchline thing happened. Suddenly everybody and their mothers and their mother's mothers wanted the book. Well we can't sell what we don't have. So while we've bumped our numbers for forthcoming issues, we kept our orders for #90 at what we WERE selling. That meant Batman, usually the king of our Top Ten lists fell all the way down to #4 this week. After subs, we didn't have any copies for the shelf and while I'm sure we could've sold hundreds more, we just didn't have them to sell. Let's hope the hype for #92 doesn't eat itself like some kind four color ouroboros.
