Masters of the Universe Takes Over the Mattel Booth at SDCC

Masters of the Universe is the talk of the con floor right now at SDCC. Mattel has more space devoted to MOTU this year than the last couple combined, and with good reason. With a new film to support, the brand re-entering the zeitgeist thanks to The Toys That Made Us and other such things. With that in mind, let's take a look at the new Masters of the Universe figures and geek out about them together, shall we?

Of course, the big news is that Mattel has a new figure line coming, dubbed Masters of the Universe: Origins. These figures are the classic looking figures as if they were coming out in the 80's only with today's technology. What does that mean? It means that they have 16 points of articulation, but they still stand 5.5 inches tall. They will come with swappable parts and accessories as well, and the brand team is over the moon about them. They look spectacular, both He-Man and Skeletor were revealed today, with four more figures to be revealed over the next couple days.

The coolest news about Masters of the Universe: Origins? They will retail for $14.99, and are coming to retail. That's right, you will be able to wlak into a store and buy MOTU figures again. They will not be in stores until the fall of 2020, so they are still aways away. But just knowing that they are coming, along with that awesome price point to boot. Man, good luck topping that announcement, every other toy company.

They also had the new Target exclusive line of She-Ra: Princesses of Power dolls on display. They look prety good! Nice articulation, good accessories, and overall a great start to what is hopefully a long run. These are in targets this week.

Finally, Masters of the Universe is taking over Mega Construx. I have to say, this I did not expect. My biggest fear buying the figures was that they would stop supporting the line at some point and I would have this huge Castle Grayskull and like 5 characters around it. Well, that is not a worry anymore. Multiple figure sets, single-releases, vehicles, and even beats are on the way. Standouts to me were the Panthor and Battle Cat, and especially that Roton, because my man Mer-Man is in it!

If you are at SDCC, make a point to swing by the Masters of the Universe display in the Mattel booth. All of this is one display there, along with photo ops and even a diorama of vintage figures. All in all, it is a great time to be a Masters of the Universe collector and fan.
