Are You There God, It's Me, Joshua Hale Fialkov
In a rare interview, God, the cosmic potato, sat down with writer and handsomest man in comics Joshua Hale Fialkov (The Bunker, The Ultimates, I, Vampire, not Green Lantern Corps) to discuss his new comic portrayal in Oni Press' The Life After, premiering in July.
Joshua Hale Fialkov: Thanks for taking the time to talk, אֲדֹנָי.
God: Please, just call me God.
JHF: Really?
G: Oh yes, honestly, for some reason everyone thinks that I'm going to be all picky. I'm just glad people aren't total ####heads to each other all the time.
JHF: That's actually a part of what I wanted to talk about. One of the central questions in the Life After is the idea that you are somehow, I don't know, judgmental. That you decide who should go where, and that somehow some of your children are better than others-
G: That's why I did the book, honestly. That's what I wanted to say, and what I wanted to, y'know, poke at. Everyone focuses on the sturm und drang in the books, but doesn't notice all the unconditional love. I even tried to get my boy to tell everyone that all that matters is to love each other, and what did they do to him?
JHF: Right, right. That's all good and fine, but, you have a planet full of adherents all splitting hairs and arguing over verb placement-
G: Guys, I didn't write that book. I tried, y'know? I sat there and put thoughts in people's ears, but, then, you get you guys in there mucking it all up.
JHF: So why don't you set things right? Set the record straight.
G: Well, first of all, anytime I try and talk to people TODAY, they get put in an institution. So, the only real way to get the word out there, in my estimation, is through an Oni Press comic book. This comic is an adventure book, an epic story. It is not, I repeat not a wussy navel gazing book. This is a book people will love to read because otherwise what's the point?
JHF: So you're saying that this book might be the solution to eons of fighting and death in your name?
G: Especially if we can push that TV show through. People just love a TV version of a comic book these days. Are you watching Walking Dead?
JHF: God watches the Walking Dead?
GOD: I mean, it's no Arrow or True Detective…
JHF: Is there anything else you want to say about The Life After before we go?
G: AND SO IT IS WRITTEN IN THE AGES, PRE-ORDER THE LIFE AFTER FROM ONI PRESS, OR I SHALL SMITE THEE, SENDING THY SOUL- I sounded like Thor right then, didn't I?
JHF: A bit, yeah.
The Life After is available for pre-order now from Oni Press, Final Order Cutoff is on Monday, so tell your retailer you want a copy now. If you don't, we aren't saying you'll get smitted or anything, but, why chance it? Here's the heretofore unseen Infurnari Variant….
