Aspen Comics Adds Age Ratings To Books As Somebody Finally Thinks Of The Children
We're not saying this is the first step in a return to the days of the comics code authority, but Aspen Comics has announced plans to add age ratings to their books, beginning with Lola XOXO Vol. 2 #1 in July. In a press release, the company said that the decision to include age ratings came from retailer feedback, and that the age ratings will help retailers to stock and sell their comics.
Most importantly, it will help to attract coveted young readers to the comics medium, with Aspen President Frank Mastromauro saying, "With so many different genres in our library, we also felt this is the best way for new readers to make an informed decision on whether the book is a right fit for them or their children, as cultivating new readership is key to the future of our industry."
Age ratings on all future Aspen titles will include "All Ages," "Teen," and "Teen Plus." Below, check out Siya Oum's cover to Lola XOXO #1, in stores July 12 (and rated "Teen," in case you were wondering).
