Bleeding Cool Bestseller List – 14th October 2014

comics-batman-35-endgame

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the Wednesday Warriors, those who can't wait to the weekend to get this week's comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

Last week was a big sales week for comics, to coincide with the New York Comic Con. The launch of Batman: Endgame, the launch of the new Batgirl, the launch of Axis, the launch of Wytches, more Time Runs Out, Spider-Verse and much more. But Batman beat out the heavily hyped eventness of Axis, and Scott Snyder got two in the top ten.

  1. Batman #35
  2. Avengers X-Men: Axis #1
  3. Amazing Spider-Man #7
  4. Avengers #36
  5. Batgirl #35
  6. Wytches #1
  7. Batman Eternal #27
  8. Earth 2: World's End #1
  9. Earth 2 #27
  10. Rocket Raccoon #4

Thanks to the following retailers,

Who had this to say,

Crazy week in new books this week! Axis & Batman both had people talking and coming into the store specifically for them. Lot of Axis customers were very unhappy with the art in the book, saying it looked very rushed for a $5 book. Wytches #1 did fantastic sales, adding to the stable of Image books doing numbers bigger than a lot of Marvel & DC here. Black Science and Copperhead both sold great this week as well. We're seeing more and more customers giving indies a try and prices are a big reason for this. Not only that, but Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo going to bat for the fans against the $4.99 price of Batman was a hot topic in the shop all day Wednesday.

Not nearly the response to Batgirl that I expected. Not much interest at all, although I don't really have the customers it target. Ms Marvel was a hit but those readers have now gone on to college.

Very pleased with the response to World
Lots of big name titles in a smaller week of releases. DC dominated with seven of the top ten. Worlds End #1 beat out the other weeklys as expected. A week with a new Astro City is always a good week and it sold better than Futures End and Batman Eternal. New creative team on Batgirl put sales back to where they had been about a year ago. We had seen a slow, steady decline.
s End. I didn't know how people would feel about a 3rd weekly.

Two of the best selling Marvel titles came out, Avengers and Amazing Spider-Man, but the rest of their releases were pretty quiet. Rocket Raccoon's sales keep going up which is great, just not enough for a top ten spot.

Wytches was the biggest non-BigTwo book of the week. Would have probably made the top ten had we ordered more. Can't get 2nd ptgs soon enough. Sex Criminals is still doing well but not flying off the shelf on the day of release like the earlier issues.
Decent sales over all and even more complaints about $4.99 books, particularly from DC readers…

DC back issues are going fast, mostly Gotham related titles.

There was a swift and sudden demand for the current and soon to be over New Warriors series. We sold out of all we had on the shelf, reordered a bunch of the most recent issues and sold out of those as well.

Two words this week, Wytches and Birthright.  Over 600+ copies between them sold at $2.99 each…that's right cover price $2.99.  Marvel and Dc round off the top ten with 4 spots each.   This week Image owned the new issues sales with 90% of stacks with a Image comic in it.  Axis seemed to capture ever Marvel fan. DC fans flocked for Batgirl this week.   Other publishers did well but the Big Three continue to dominate pull list and walk up sales.
