Captain America Gets Involved With Politics For The First Time Ever

For decades, Captain America was renowned amongst comic book superheroes for being a completely non-political. Well, unless you count that time he punched Hitler. Or the time he gave up being Captain America because he found out President Nixon was the leader of a villainous organization called the Secret Empire. Or the time he went to war with Iron Man over government intrusions into privacy. Or the time was revealed to be a Nazi in the recent Secret Empire super-mega-crossover event (which was different from the first Secret Empire). But other than those, and maybe a few other times, okay and maybe a few more times after that, it's been basically no politics at all for the star-spangled Avenger.

That's why it's so shocking when politics just suddenly appear, completely out of nowhere, with no warning whatsoever, in modern comic books. It's like, whoa, hey, where did all these politics come from?! And it's also why it's so shocking that Chris Evans, who plays Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has launched a new non-partisan political website with aims of providing U.S. politicians from both sides of the aisle with a way to explain their viewpoints to citizens. That's like twice the politics!

Evans released a video promoting the new service, called A Starting Point, in which politicians have roughly one minute to answer questions. In the video, Evans says the website aims to counter a lack of trust in media and provide an unbiased place where people can learn about the issues directly from politicians.

"Why isn't there a place that I can go to hear both sides of an issue in a succinct way that I can trust?" Evans asks in the video. "For every question, we're gonna try to get the Republican and Democratic response, so for a person who knows nothing about an issue, you can come and hear both sides."

"It's a one-stop shop for simple, digestible information, from the people who know best" Evans said, making the dubious claims that politicians actually have any idea what they're talking about.

Evans then makes an open invitation to politicians from both sides to participate.

Hi, I'm Chris Evans. If you're watching this, I hope you'll consider contributing to my new civics engagement program called A Starting Point. It's a website designed to provide succinct answers to common questions by providing both the Democratic and Republican point of view on dozens of issues across the political landscape. If you choose to participate, we'll send you a list of questions. You choose the questions you want to answer. Our only request is that you try to keep your answers to about a minute. At the end of your response, we'll attach two or three links that you provide. That way, if someone responds to what you have to say, they know where to go to continue their education on that issue. I want to make it clear that this website has nothing to do with my political opinion. It's not about my political opinion. It's about yours. This is a chance for you to talk about the issues that matter to you.

So how long before this devolves into absolute chaos? Place your bets below.

A prophecy once said that in the comic book industry's darkest days, a hero would come to lead the people through a plague of overpriced floppies, incentive variant covers, #1 issue reboots, and super-mega-crossover events. Sadly, that prophecy was wrong. Oh, Jude Terror was right. For ten years. About everything. But nobody listened. And so, Jude Terror has moved on to a more important mission: turning Bleeding Cool into a pro wrestling dirt sheet!
