ComiXology Bestseller List, 8th February 2019- Here Comes Daredevil!

Welcome to the ComiXology Bestseller list, your guide to see how well your favorite titles are selling digitally. Every week I'll post the ranking of every new title, plus a ranking of the best selling volumes & graphic novels. As always, I hope you find it interesting and informative.

Interesting Top 10 this week, as we have 4 DC titles and 4 Marvel titles sandwiched in between 2 Image titles for a 4-4-2 tie. The first week of each month used to be one of DC's weakest, but with Young Justice and Green Lantern backing up Batman and Justice League, DC is bringing the fight back to Marvel. Speaking of Marvel, it looks like their Fresh Start numbers are starting to wane. Avengers no longer looks like the invincible sales juggernaut it did last summer, and Tony Stark: Iron Man has slipped to a new low. (13 in New Issues, 15 Overall). We're still a long way from hitting the panic button, though: Immortal Hulk is still holding its great sales position, and people still seem willing to pay $8 for an X-Men comic. I just hope Marvel doesn't take this small Avengers decline as a sign we don't want Blade. (We do, very much. Seriously, bring back Blade).

While a few older Fresh Start titles are showing diminishing returns, Marvel should be very happy with its relaunches in the last month. The new #1's of Kelly Thompson and Carmen Carnero's Captain Marvel and Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw's Guardians of the Galaxy each showed a double-digit improvement over their previous incarnations. And it looks like Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto want to get in on the fun, so here comes Daredevil!

Now I haven't mentioned Daredevil that much in this column, because it's always one of the few books that does much better physically then digitally. On the Diamond chart, Charles Soule's Daredevil was right up there with The Immortal Hulk and Captain America. Digitally however, it was selling little better than Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. 

(No insult intended to Squirrel Girl fans, but you all know where your book stands. Ok, that still sounded insulting. What I meant to say is that Squirrel Girl is a nice boutique book, but brands that really care about sales don't want to drop below the Squirrel Girl line. Oh God, that was even worse. Forget I said anything).

Anyways, Daredevil got the Fresh Start treatment (one of the last), and while it fell just short of the Top 10, it's still a big lift. So just like Donny Cates, Geoff Shaw and Kelly Thompson and Cermen Carneo, Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto appear to have a very bright future at Marvel. And perhaps their new Daredevil will able to fill the hole in our hearts upon hearing the news of the Netflix cancellation.

(Ok, that's a lie and we all know it. There's no healing from that tragedy).
