Dawnrunner #1 Revives The Retailer Variant Cover

Dawnrunner by Ram V and Evan Cagle is launching its first issue from Dark Horse with a fair few retailer exclusive variant covers.

Once upon a time, retailer variant covers were a big thing. Comic stores would order thousands of copies of a comic to get a special cover made, exclusive to them, which they could use for promotional purposes or charge a whacking great fortune for, to a collectable market. Comic cons got in on the act, as did comic book creators themselves, with something to sell at shows or online, signed, at a premium. But then one or two retailers who specialised in such covers went bust, the collectable appeal dimmed, and the market went the other way. It's now pretty much comic creators looking for a way to upsell their signatures. Well, there have been recent stabs at a return to retailer variants, with the Energon Universe at Image Comics/Skybound, and now Dark Horse are looking in that direction again. With the new kaiju-mech comic Dawnrunner by Ram V and Evan Cagle. With "mankind entrenched in an ongoing struggle against an invasion of giant monsters called Tetza. Human civilization has combined their resources and efforts to construct the Iron Kings —imposing mechs built to fight their enemy toe-to-toe in epic gladiatorial combat."

And now they have the following exclusive covers for Dawnrunner #1 from certain comic stores under, what I understand, are more generous terms than might previously have been arranged.
