DC and Rooster Teeth Sitting in a Tree, M-A-K-I-N-G RWBY and gen:LOCK Comics

At RTX over the weekend, DC Comics and Rooster Teeth anounced a partnership to produce comic books based on RWBY and Gen:LOCK. Launching digitally in August and September, each series will be released on alternating weeks, with the comics to be collected in print as monthly issues later. The first issue of both series will feature variant covers by Jim Lee.

A press release reveals the creative team for RWBY:

Acclaimed writer Marguerite Bennett (BATWOMAN, DC BOMBSHELLS) and artists Mirka Andolfo (DC BOMBSHELLS, HEX WIVES, WONDER WOMAN) and Arif Prianto (DEATHSTROKE) will delve into the world of RWBY in the new comic. A global anime phenomenon, RWBY takes place in a world filled with horrific monsters bent on death and destruction, where humanity's hope lies with powerful Huntsmen and Huntresses. Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long are four such Huntresses in training whose journeys will take them far past the grounds of their school, Beacon Academy.

As well as a quote from RWBY writer Marguerite Bennett:

RWBY is the kind of story I wish passionately that I had had growing up — magic, mayhem, monsters, and friendship between girls who grapple with real struggles and grow together to become stronger, brighter, kinder, and better. It's a joy to work on this project, a joy to be part of this mythology — I've fallen deliriously in love with the whole mad world and all the mysteries in it. I am so delighted to explore with Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang — and with all of you.

And artist Mirka Andolfo:

I had heard good things about the RWBY anime series, and the character designs seemed very cool to me. When DC reached out to ask if I was interested in working on a comic book based on the series, I immediately accepted, and started immersing myself in the RWBY universe. The work I've done for RWBY has been some of the most enjoyable art I've ever created– the style fits me perfectly. I'm also so excited to be paired again with my DC Bombshells partner, Marguerite Bennet!"

And the gen:LOCK creative team:

gen:LOCK's war-torn world will be explored in comic form by co-writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing (GREEN ARROW, NIGHTWING, GOTHAM CITY GARAGE), along with artist Carlo Barbieri (GREEN LANTERNS, ADVENTURES OF SUPER SONS). The gen:LOCK story revolves around a diverse team of young pilots, recruited by Earth's last free society to control the next generation of giant, weaponized robot bodies known as mecha. These daring recruits will find, however, that their newfound abilities come at no small cost. The comic will expand on the world created in the highly popular gen:LOCK mecha-anime style series starring Michael B. Jordan, Dakota Fanning, Maisie Williams, Kōichi Yamadera, Golshifteh Farahani, Asia Kate Dillon and David Tennant.

With a joint quote from Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing:

Giant mechas, heartfelt drama, and a whole new theater of war – we're deeply excited to be telling the next chapter of the gen:LOCK universe. Huge thanks to everyone at Rooster Teeth & DC for recruiting us into this grand experiment – we promise to turn the screws on Chase, Cammie, Kazu, Val, and Yaz as they face an uncertain future and a devastating new threat.
