Diamond Digital (Finally) Launches
Today, Diamond Comic Distribution and iVerse Media have launched Diamond Digital, a new service that will allow comic stores to sell digital comics via redemption codes in store or directly on their website, which can then be redeemed at the Digital Reader website. It's intended to sell day-and-date comics, but also allow "digital plus" sales, selling a digtal comic to accompany the print version for an additional 99 cents.
Launching with 4000 comics from IDW, Image, Archie, APE, Arcana, Bluewater, BOOM!, Broadsword, Hermes, Sea Lion, Top Shelf, Viper Comics, and Within Temptation, there are some serious gaps, with Marvel, DC and Dark Horse being the obvious, but also Dynamite, Valiant and Oni Press.
Will this be Diamond's bulwart against the encrouching tide of digital distribution? Or is it too little too late?
