Announced at a Venice cartoon festival, it was announced that an animated series based on the Dragonero series published by Bonelli in Europe and Dark Horse in the USA, was the next project for animation studio Rai Fiction, based on the illustrations by Riccardo Crosa and Paul Francescutto. The cartoon will be 2D and pushed to a younger audience.

Dragonero chronicles the adventures of Ian Arnill, Scout Empire Erondariano and heir of the noble and ancient lineage of Varliedarto, or the Dragon Hunters.

An Ex-military man, he performs intelligence services for the imperial authorities, when they need his services. His companions are his childhood friend, the ogre Gmor Burpen, and the elf Sylvan Evening of Frondascura, a botany teacher and a descendant of the only elven clan who decided not to leave the lands of men, with whom he lives in a watchtower restored around the Solian, the capital of the independent republic. Occasionally the three are added Ian's sister, Myrva Aranille, a member of the Order Of Technocrats, and the Alben Luresindo, or a "Guardian of Light" magician.

Their five plus a sixth partner, a warrior monk named Hecuba apparently perished during the final phase of the mission, are the makers of the "Big Ban", the seal that keeps away the abominations of a hell dimension from the human world.

Just after this mission, Ian got his powers by accidentally drinking the blood of Drago, and his sword, Saevhasectha (Cutting Cruel). From then on, everyone called him Romevarlo (Dragonero).
