When Gingerzap Returned To Dallas Fan Expo
The illustrator known as Gingerzap has a career attending comic book conventions, personally or with representatives, selling prints of what is known as "splatter art" – familiar looking pop culture figures portrayed in a… splattery form.
In the past she has been accused of copying the original images from other creators, and putting it through a filter, before selling it on, in what has been described as an industrialised form.
Her work has recently become more separate from the originals – but people can still identify the originals. And this weekend she attended, in person Fan Expo Dallas.
And people noticed.
One of the show's organisers, Kevin Boyd, started addressing people's concerns, noting that she had been refused entrance last year, but this year had approached with a new print style. Though he had already asked her to remove prints that he could see used statues as references.
But he hadn't caught them all, as this photo by Steve Munguia shows.
When compared to other images, some identified by Colt Chenault.
The organisers took note. Firstly confirming issues over the Catwoman image…
But then confirming that Gingerzap had been booted from the show for its final day.
Again, something that couldn;t have been achieved without social media.
