A Girl, a Ghost, and a War – Will You Find Your Nook?

Caleb Thusat writes,

A Girl, a Ghost, and a War – Will You Find Your Nook?

Two years ago, I had a dream. In this dream, my wife and I moved into an old house with a carriage house attached to it. In that carriage house there was a small door. That door lead to a small nook where supplies for the carriage house were once kept. In this dream, the nook had a dark past, for once upon a time, a girl died there. She was locked in the nook and left to starve.

Don't ask me why I have such detailed, morbid dreams, but the moment I woke from this sleep, I knew I had to write this story. This story is now on Kickstarter as a graphic novel. NOOK is a 100 page, hardcover, black & white, magazine sized graphic novel with artwork by Marcelo Biott. Although NOOK began as a retelling of the story in my dream, if has become so much more.

A Girl, a Ghost, and a War – Will You Find Your Nook? This is a story of a family seeking refuge from WWII. Avery and her parent escape Germany just before World War II begins. Avery's mother is Jewish and her father is German. Fearing what is to come, the family flees to the French countryside to hide and live in an old farmhouse. Little do they know that this house has a dark past of its own and is haunted by a ghost cat named NOOK.

This story is a culmination of demented dreams, family history, and my love of Guillermo del Toro movies. If you are a fan of the Devil's Backbone, Pan's Labyrinth, or Crimson Peak. I'm know you'll enjoy this book.

A Girl, a Ghost, and a War – Will You Find Your Nook?

This is the 2nd hardcover graphic novel and 3rd comic series I have created through Kickstarter. I think my track record speaks for itself. If you've backed any of my other projects, you know that stick to deadlines and deliver in both quality and content.

Nook explores the cyclical nature of our existence, and how history is doomed to be repeated if we cannot learn from our past. This story has become much more timely than I ever intended it to be. I hope resonates with you, and I hope you love it.

About Caleb Thusat

I'm just your average guy with crazy stories living in my head. I live in Hudson, Ohio with my lovely wife, our son, and our two cats. I am a full-time Dad and a comic book writer with the loving support of my amazing family and fans.

Over a decade ago, I moved to Chicago with my sights set on a career in independent filmmaking. I worked a 9 to 5 job while producing a shorts and independent feature films, but in 2015 I began writing comic books. Something about writing for this medium felt right, and I knew I found my true calling.

All of the ideas I had for movies were too elaborate for the budget and restrictive nature of independent film. By tapping into the comic book world, I was able to make my words come to life on a page through working with one or two artists rather than an entire crew. Production costs are minimal compared to independent filmmaking, and Kickstarter allows me to raise the funding for art, production, and shipping, all while exposing my writing and creativity to a broader audience.

I've always considered myself a writer. I went to college clueless about what I wanted to pursue as a career. I eventually settled into studying popular culture due to my deep interest in the meanings behind art, music, and film. My degree taught me how to write, but my stories have come to me through living life.

I ran my first successful comic book Kickstarter in March 2016 for issue #1 of my comic series, Alter-Life, and I have never looked back.
